If you love religious tourism, the area of Lake Trichonida is undoubtedly the place you need to visit.
Why?
Also known as the “Mecca of Christianity”, it is the area with the most Churches and Monasteries. However, what is remarkable is not their number, but their historicity.
They are an attraction both for deeply religious visitors and for those who love to travel to the historical and cultural elements of the area they visit.
But let’s take a look at some of the most beautiful spots one by one.
1. Holy Monastery of Agios Kosmas of Aetolos

Kosmas of Aetolos, also known as Patrokosmas, is the Patron Saint of Thermo.
A stone’s throw from the Thermios Apollon Hotel you will find the homonymous Monastery, which was erected as a tribute to the Saint, as the area is the place of birth and the beginning of his ascetic life.
Those who visit the monastery will have the opportunity to venerate part of his holy relic.
Shortly after the Monastery and in the direction of Mega Dendro, you can first see the old Church of Kosmas of Aetolos and then visit the spot where the foundations of his paternal home are located.
2. Holy Monastery of Agia Paraskevi Mandras
Another 12th-century monastery, through which the two Aetolian teachers, Agios Kosmas of Aetolos and Osios Evgenios Giannoulis of Aetolos, have passed.
It is a uniquely beautiful stone-built Monastery surrounded by cypresses.

The underground Museum of Wax Likenesses is of great interest, which is a representation of the Secret School that is believed to have operated on the site.
Finally, the miraculous icon of Agia Paraskevi is kept in the Monastery.
3. Holy Monastery of Eisodia of Theotokou Myrtias
Going up from Agrinio to Thermo, on our left, we meet the special and imposing Monastery of Myrtia. In one of the most beautiful locations, on the mountain, with a stunning view of Lake Trichonida, in the 12th century. the Monastery of Eisodia of Theotokou Myrtias was first built.
Over the years and until the 16th century, other sections were erected next to the original section and now the visitor can tour the complete building.
We would suggest you take the time to observe the frescoes inside the Church.

If you visit the Monastery during a service, the unique devotional atmosphere will surely captivate you.
4. Holy Monastery of Fotmou
It is located NE of Lake Trichonida and dates back to the 16th century.
Its location right above Lake Trichonida gives a breathtaking view that is definitely worth capturing.
